Overview
Chat Lens is a Chrome extension that helps you search and manage your AI chat conversations across 18+ services including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Copilot, and others. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Data Storage — Local Only
All of your conversation data — messages, titles, timestamps, and media files — is stored entirely on your local device using your browser's built-in storage (IndexedDB and Origin Private File System). We do not transmit, upload, or store your conversation data on any external server.
Network Communication
Chat Lens makes the following network requests. No conversation content is ever included in any of these requests.
Our Server
Chat Lens communicates with our server (chatlens-license.jonghkleegm.workers.dev) for two purposes only:
- Remote configuration — Your extension version number is sent to receive configuration updates (e.g., UI selector hotfixes). No personal data is included.
- License proxy — Our server acts as a proxy for Polar.sh license operations (see below).
Polar.sh (Payment & Subscription)
We use Polar.sh as our payment and subscription provider. Chat Lens communicates with api.polar.sh to:
- Validate and activate your license key using your license key and a randomly generated device identifier.
- Check subscription status using your Polar customer ID and email address (provided by you during purchase through Polar.sh).
Your Polar customer email and ID are stored locally on your device and are only sent back to Polar.sh to verify your subscription. We do not use this information for any other purpose. For details on how Polar.sh handles your payment and personal data, please refer to Polar.sh's Privacy Policy.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect analytics, usage telemetry, or crash reports.
- We do not track your browsing activity outside of supported AI chat services.
- We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal data to any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.
- We do not use your conversation data for training AI models or any purpose other than providing the extension's local search functionality.
Chrome Permissions
Chat Lens requests the following browser permissions, each for a specific purpose:

Data Security
- All conversation data is stored locally using browser-native storage (IndexedDB, OPFS).
- Media files (images, videos) are downloaded and cached locally.
- Our server does not store any user data — it only proxies license operations and serves configuration files.
- Communication with our server and Polar.sh uses HTTPS encryption.
Backup and Restore
Chat Lens offers a backup/restore feature that exports your data as a local file. This file remains on your device. We do not have access to your backup files.
Data Deletion
You can delete all of your data at any time:
- Within the extension: Use the Settings page to clear all stored conversations and media.
- Uninstalling the extension: Removing Chat Lens from Chrome automatically deletes all associated local storage.
- Browser settings: Clear site data for the extension through Chrome's privacy settings.
Children's Privacy
Chat Lens is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
